The bow tie
For formal, for fun, for free spirits
By and large the bow tie has been relegated to formal events. Unfortunate since the bow tie conveys a sense of individuality in daily attire. Wearing one takes a man who is confident in his clothing. It can give you a signature item to add to your wardrobe.
1
Step 1
Start with end in left hand extending 1 12" below that in right hand
2
Step 2
Cross longer end over shorter and up through loop. Form front loop of bow by doubling up short end and placing across collar points
3
Step 3
Hold front loop between the thumb and index finger of left hand. Drop long end over right
4
Step 4
With your left thumb and forefinger, fold front ends together around hanging end by pulling folded bow forward
5
Step 5
Make a small passage behind which you can push looped end of the back bow using your right forefinger
6
Step 6
Poke resulting loop through knot behind front loop. Even ends and tighten
The Four-In-Hand
Simple, popular, always appropriate
This knot derives its name from the way a carriage driver would knot his reins keeping four horses in hand. It is probably today's most popular necktie knot. Classic design & ease of mastery have made it a permanent staple of menswear.
1
Step 1
Start with wide end of tie on your right and extending a foot below narrow end
2
Step 2
Cross wide end over narrow and back underneath
3
Step 3
Continue around, passing wide end across front of narrow once more
4
Step 4
Pass wide end up through loop
5
Step 5
Holding front of knot loose with index finger, pass wide end down through loop in front
6
Step 6
Remove finger and tighten knot carefully. Draw up tight to collar by holding narrow end and sliding knot up snug
The Half-Windsor
Intense day, easy day, every day
The Half-Windsor, or Single Windsor, shares much of the same prestige as the Full Windsor but appears to have less pretense. This makes it a solid choice for everyday menswear, yet still offers an air of power in any business situation.

2

The Full-Windsor

The Windsor knot, or Full Windsor, is the largest of the four most popular necktie knots. Stemming from royal English heritage, this knot enjoys a large prestige when worn, making it largely a power knot for business.
